This project is configured to fit the examples in this guide.\n\nTo manually initialize the project:\n\n. Navigate to https://start.spring.io[start.spring.io^].\nThis service pulls in all the dependencies you need for an application and does most of the setup for you.\n. Choose either Gradle or Maven and the language you want to use. This guide assumes that you chose Java.\n. Click *Dependencies* and select *Spring for RabbitMQ* and *Docker Compose Support*.\n. Click *Generate*.\n. Download the resulting ZIP file, which is an archive of an application that is configured with your choices.\n\nNOTE: If your IDE has the Spring Initializr integration, you can complete this process from your IDE.\n\n== Create a RabbitMQ Message Receiver\n\nWith any messaging-based application, you need to create a receiver that responds to\npublished messages. The following listing (from\n`src/main/java/com/example/messagingrabbitmq/Receiver.java`) shows how to do so:\n\n====\n[source,java,tabsize=2]\n----\ninclude::complete/src/main/java/com/example/messagingrabbitmq/Receiver.java[]\n----\n====\n\nThe `Receiver` is a POJO that defines a method for receiving messages. When you register\nit to receive messages, you can name it anything you want.\n\nNOTE: For convenience, this POJO also has a `CountDownLatch`. This lets it signal that the\nmessage has been received. This is something you are not likely to implement in a\nproduction application.\n\n== Register the Listener and Send a Message\n\nSpring AMQP's `RabbitTemplate` provides everything you need to send and receive messages\nwith RabbitMQ. However, you need to:\n\n- Configure a message listener container.\n- Declare the queue, the exchange, and the binding between them.\n- Configure a component to send some messages to test the listener.\n\nNOTE: Spring Boot automatically creates a connection factory and a RabbitTemplate,\nreducing the amount of code you have to write.\n\nYou will use `RabbitTemplate` to send messages, and you will register a `Receiver` with\nthe message listener container to receive messages. The connection factory drives both,\nletting them connect to the RabbitMQ server. The following listing (from\n`src/main/java/com/example/messagingrabbitmq/MessagingRabbitmqApplication.java`) shows how\nto create the application class:\n\n====\n[source,java,tabsize=2]\n----\ninclude::complete/src/main/java/com/example/messagingrabbitmq/MessagingRabbitmqApplication.java[]\n----\n====\n\nThe `@SpringBootApplication` annotation offers a number of benefits, as described in the https://docs.spring.io/spring-boot/docs/current/reference/htmlsingle/#getting-started.first-application.code.spring-boot-application[reference documentation].\n\nThe bean defined in the `listenerAdapter()` method is registered as a message listener in\nthe container (defined in `container()`). It listens for messages on the `spring-boot`\nqueue. Because the `Receiver` class is a POJO, it needs to be wrapped in the\n`MessageListenerAdapter`, where you specify that it invokes `receiveMessage`.\n\nNOTE: JMS queues and AMQP queues have different semantics. For example, JMS sends queued\nmessages to only one consumer. While AMQP queues do the same thing, AMQP producers do not\nsend messages directly to queues. Instead, a message is sent to an exchange, which can go\nto a single queue or fan out to multiple queues, emulating the concept of JMS topics.\n\nThe message listener container and receiver beans are all you need to listen for messages.\nTo send a message, you also need a Rabbit template.\n\nThe `queue()` method creates an AMQP queue. The `exchange()` method creates a topic\nexchange. The `binding()` method binds these two together, defining the behavior that\noccurs when `RabbitTemplate` publishes to an exchange.\n\nNOTE: Spring AMQP requires that the `Queue`, the `TopicExchange`, and the `Binding` be\ndeclared as top-level Spring beans in order to be set up properly.\n\nIn this case, we use a topic exchange, and the queue is bound with a routing key of\n`foo.bar.#`, which means that any messages sent with a routing key that begins with\n`foo.bar.` are routed to the queue.\n\n== Send a Test Message\n\nIn this sample, test messages are sent by a `CommandLineRunner`, which also waits for the\nlatch in the receiver and closes the application context. The following listing (from\n`src/main/java/com.example.messagingrabbitmq/Runner.java`) shows how it works:\n\n====\n[source,java,tabsize=2]\n----\ninclude::complete/src/main/java/com/example/messagingrabbitmq/Runner.java[]\n----\n====\n\nNotice that the template routes the message to the exchange with a routing key of\n`foo.bar.baz`, which matches the binding.\n\nIn tests, you can mock out the runner so that the receiver can be tested in isolation.\n\n== Run the Application\n\nThe `main()` method starts that process by creating a Spring application context. This\nstarts the message listener container, which starts listening for messages. There is a\n`Runner` bean, which is then automatically run. It retrieves the `RabbitTemplate` from the\napplication context and sends a `Hello from RabbitMQ!` message on the `spring-boot` queue.\nFinally, it closes the Spring application context, and the application ends.\n\nYou can run the main method through your IDE.\nNote that, if you have cloned the project from the solution repository, your IDE may look in the wrong place for the `compose.yaml` file.\nYou can configure your IDE to look in the correct place or you could use the command line to run the application.\nThe `./gradlew bootRun` and `./mvnw spring-boot:run` commands will launch the application and automatically find the compose.yaml file.\n\n== Preparing to Build the Application\n\nTo run the code without Spring Boot Docker Compose support, you need a version of RabbitMQ running locally to connect to.\nTo do this, you can use Docker Compose, but you must first make two changes to the `compose.yaml` file.\nFirst, modify the `ports` entry in `compose.yaml` to be `'5672:5672'`.\nSecond, add a `container_name`.\n\nThe `compose.yaml` should now be:\n----\nservices:\n rabbitmq:\n container_name: 'guide-rabbit'\n image: 'rabbitmq:latest'\n environment:\n - 'RABBITMQ_DEFAULT_PASS=secret'\n - 'RABBITMQ_DEFAULT_USER=myuser'\n ports:\n - '5672:5672'\n----\n\nYou can now run `docker-compose up` to start the RabbitMQ service.\nNow you should have an external RabbitMQ server that is ready to accept requests.\n\nAdditionally, you need to tell Spring how to connect to the RabbitMQ server (this was handled automatically with Spring Boot Docker Compose support).\nAdd the following code to a new `application.properties` file in `src/main/resources`:\n----\nspring.rabbitmq.password=secret\nspring.rabbitmq.username=myuser\n----\n\ninclude::https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spring-guides/getting-started-macros/main/build_and_execute_guide.adoc[]\n\nRegardless of how you chose to build and run the application, you should see the following output:\n\n====\n[source,bash]\n----\n Sending message...\n Received <Hello from RabbitMQ!>\n----\n====\n\n== Summary\n\nCongratulations! You have just developed a simple publish-and-subscribe application with\nSpring and RabbitMQ. You can do more with\nhttps://docs.spring.io/spring-amqp/reference/#_introduction[Spring and RabbitMQ^]\nthan what is covered here, but this guide should provide a good start.\n\n== See Also\n\nAdditional https://github.com/spring-projects/spring-amqp-samples[Spring AMQP Samples]\n\nThe following guides may also be helpful:\n\n* https://spring.io/guides/gs/messaging-redis/[Messaging with Redis]\n* https://spring.io/guides/gs/messaging-jms/[Messaging with JMS]\n* https://spring.io/guides/gs/spring-boot/[Building an Application with Spring Boot]\n\ninclude::https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spring-guides/getting-started-macros/main/footer.adoc[]\n"

If your /bin/sh is\n#       noncompliant, but you have some other compliant shell such as ksh or\n#       bash, then to run this script, type that shell name before the whole\n#       command line, like:\n#\n#           ksh Gradle\n#\n#       Busybox and similar reduced shells will NOT work, because this script\n#       requires all of these POSIX shell features:\n#         * functions;\n#         * expansions «$var», «${var}», «${var:-default}», «${var+SET}»,\n#           «${var#prefix}», «${var%suffix}», and «$( cmd )»;\n#         * compound commands having a testable exit status, especially «case»;\n#         * various built-in commands including «command», «set», and «ulimit».\n#\n#   Important for patching:\n#\n#   (2) This script targets any POSIX shell, so it avoids extensions provided\n#       by Bash, Ksh, etc; in particular arrays are avoided.\n#\n#       The \"traditional\" practice of packing multiple parameters into a\n#       space-separated string is a well documented source of bugs and security\n#       problems, so this is (mostly) avoided, by progressively accumulating\n#       options in \"$@\", and eventually passing that to Java.\n#\n#       Where the inherited environment variables (DEFAULT_JVM_OPTS, JAVA_OPTS,\n#       and GRADLE_OPTS) rely on word-splitting, this is performed explicitly;\n#       see the in-line comments for details.\n#\n#       There are tweaks for specific operating systems such as AIX, CygWin,\n#       Darwin, MinGW, and NonStop.\n#\n#   (3) This script is generated from the Groovy template\n#       https://github.com/gradle/gradle/blob/3d91ce3b8caaf77ad09f381f43615b715b53f72c/platforms/jvm/plugins-application/src/main/resources/org/gradle/api/internal/plugins/unixStartScript.txt\n#       within the Gradle project.\n#\n#       You can find Gradle at https://github.com/gradle/gradle/.\n#\n##############################################################################\n\n# Attempt to set APP_HOME\n\n# Resolve links: $0 may be a link\napp_path=$0\n\n# Need this for daisy-chained symlinks.\nwhile\n    APP_HOME=${app_path%\"${app_path##*/}\"}  # leaves a trailing /; empty if no leading path\n    [ -h \"$app_path\" ]\ndo\n    ls=$( ls -ld \"$app_path\" )\n    link=${ls#*' -> '}\n    case $link in             #(\n      /*)   app_path=$link ;; #(\n      *)    app_path=$APP_HOME$link ;;\n    esac\ndone\n\n# This is normally unused\n# shellcheck disable=SC2034\nAPP_BASE_NAME=${0##*/}\n# Discard cd standard output in case $CDPATH is set (https://github.com/gradle/gradle/issues/25036)\nAPP_HOME=$( cd -P \"${APP_HOME:-./}\" > /dev/null && printf '%s\\n' \"$PWD\" ) || exit\n\n# Use the maximum available, or set MAX_FD != -1 to use that value.\nMAX_FD=maximum\n\nwarn () {\n    echo \"$*\"\n} >&2\n\ndie () {\n    echo\n    echo \"$*\"\n    echo\n    exit 1\n} >&2\n\n# OS specific support (must be 'true' or 'false').\ncygwin=false\nmsys=false\ndarwin=false\nnonstop=false\ncase \"$( uname )\" in                #(\n  CYGWIN* )         cygwin=true  ;; #(\n  Darwin* )         darwin=true  ;; #(\n  MSYS* | MINGW* )  msys=true    ;; #(\n  NONSTOP* )        nonstop=true ;;\nesac\n\n\n\n# Determine the Java command to use to start the JVM.\nif [ -n \"$JAVA_HOME\" ] ; then\n    if [ -x \"$JAVA_HOME/jre/sh/java\" ] ; then\n        # IBM's JDK on AIX uses strange locations for the executables\n        JAVACMD=$JAVA_HOME/jre/sh/java\n    else\n        JAVACMD=$JAVA_HOME/bin/java\n    fi\n    if [ ! -x \"$JAVACMD\" ] ; then\n        die \"ERROR: JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory: $JAVA_HOME\n\nPlease set the JAVA_HOME variable in your environment to match the\nlocation of your Java installation.\"\n    fi\nelse\n    JAVACMD=java\n    if ! command -v java >/dev/null 2>&1\n    then\n        die \"ERROR: JAVA_HOME is not set and no 'java' command could be found in your PATH.\n\nPlease set the JAVA_HOME variable in your environment to match the\nlocation of your Java installation.\"\n    fi\nfi\n\n# Increase the maximum file descriptors if we can.\nif ! \"$cygwin\" && ! \"$darwin\" && ! \"$nonstop\" ; then\n    case $MAX_FD in #(\n      max*)\n        # In POSIX sh, ulimit -H is undefined. If your /bin/sh is\n#       noncompliant, but you have some other compliant shell such as ksh or\n#       bash, then to run this script, type that shell name before the whole\n#       command line, like:\n#\n#           ksh Gradle\n#\n#       Busybox and similar reduced shells will NOT work, because this script\n#       requires all of these POSIX shell features:\n#         * functions;\n#         * expansions «$var», «${var}», «${var:-default}», «${var+SET}»,\n#           «${var#prefix}», «${var%suffix}», and «$( cmd )»;\n#         * compound commands having a testable exit status, especially «case»;\n#         * various built-in commands including «command», «set», and «ulimit».\n#\n#   Important for patching:\n#\n#   (2) This script targets any POSIX shell, so it avoids extensions provided\n#       by Bash, Ksh, etc; in particular arrays are avoided.\n#\n#       The \"traditional\" practice of packing multiple parameters into a\n#       space-separated string is a well documented source of bugs and security\n#       problems, so this is (mostly) avoided, by progressively accumulating\n#       options in \"$@\", and eventually passing that to Java.\n#\n#       Where the inherited environment variables (DEFAULT_JVM_OPTS, JAVA_OPTS,\n#       and GRADLE_OPTS) rely on word-splitting, this is performed explicitly;\n#       see the in-line comments for details.\n#\n#       There are tweaks for specific operating systems such as AIX, CygWin,\n#       Darwin, MinGW, and NonStop.\n#\n#   (3) This script is generated from the Groovy template\n#       https://github.com/gradle/gradle/blob/3d91ce3b8caaf77ad09f381f43615b715b53f72c/platforms/jvm/plugins-application/src/main/resources/org/gradle/api/internal/plugins/unixStartScript.txt\n#       within the Gradle project.\n#\n#       You can find Gradle at https://github.com/gradle/gradle/.\n#\n##############################################################################\n\n# Attempt to set APP_HOME\n\n# Resolve links: $0 may be a link\napp_path=$0\n\n# Need this for daisy-chained symlinks.\nwhile\n    APP_HOME=${app_path%\"${app_path##*/}\"}  # leaves a trailing /; empty if no leading path\n    [ -h \"$app_path\" ]\ndo\n    ls=$( ls -ld \"$app_path\" )\n    link=${ls#*' -> '}\n    case $link in             #(\n      /*)   app_path=$link ;; #(\n      *)    app_path=$APP_HOME$link ;;\n    esac\ndone\n\n# This is normally unused\n# shellcheck disable=SC2034\nAPP_BASE_NAME=${0##*/}\n# Discard cd standard output in case $CDPATH is set (https://github.com/gradle/gradle/issues/25036)\nAPP_HOME=$( cd -P \"${APP_HOME:-./}\" > /dev/null && printf '%s\\n' \"$PWD\" ) || exit\n\n# Use the maximum available, or set MAX_FD != -1 to use that value.\nMAX_FD=maximum\n\nwarn () {\n    echo \"$*\"\n} >&2\n\ndie () {\n    echo\n    echo \"$*\"\n    echo\n    exit 1\n} >&2\n\n# OS specific support (must be 'true' or 'false').\ncygwin=false\nmsys=false\ndarwin=false\nnonstop=false\ncase \"$( uname )\" in                #(\n  CYGWIN* )         cygwin=true  ;; #(\n  Darwin* )         darwin=true  ;; #(\n  MSYS* | MINGW* )  msys=true    ;; #(\n  NONSTOP* )        nonstop=true ;;\nesac\n\n\n\n# Determine the Java command to use to start the JVM.\nif [ -n \"$JAVA_HOME\" ] ; then\n    if [ -x \"$JAVA_HOME/jre/sh/java\" ] ; then\n        # IBM's JDK on AIX uses strange locations for the executables\n        JAVACMD=$JAVA_HOME/jre/sh/java\n    else\n        JAVACMD=$JAVA_HOME/bin/java\n    fi\n    if [ ! -x \"$JAVACMD\" ] ; then\n        die \"ERROR: JAVA_HOME is set to an invalid directory: $JAVA_HOME\n\nPlease set the JAVA_HOME variable in your environment to match the\nlocation of your Java installation.\"\n    fi\nelse\n    JAVACMD=java\n    if ! command -v java >/dev/null 2>&1\n    then\n        die \"ERROR: JAVA_HOME is not set and no 'java' command could be found in your PATH.\n\nPlease set the JAVA_HOME variable in your environment to match the\nlocation of your Java installation.\"\n    fi\nfi\n\n# Increase the maximum file descriptors if we can.\nif ! \"$cygwin\" && ! \"$darwin\" && ! \"$nonstop\" ; then\n    case $MAX_FD in #(\n      max*)\n        # In POSIX sh, ulimit -H is undefined.
